Allow 3 hours for this experience. The drive to the top of the mountain will take 40mins. You will be riding for approx. 2 hours, but that includes several stops for photo opportunities, regrouping and snacks.
This experience is for 1 person however there may be up to 19 others in the group. With 20 guests, there will be 3 guides to ensure safety measures are maintained to a premium. There are no minimum requirements for trip departures.
This ride is geared for non-riders as well as riders. The majority of the riding is downhill so fitness isn't a big issue. Included in the price is transport to the summit, guides, helmet, bike, jacket, and a snack at the bottom.
Depart the pier and drive 21km by van to the summit of Mount Wellington, which will take approx. 40 minutes. The winding mountain road takes you down to the foothills where you can choose to experience the thrill of the off-road section (5km of winding, twisting ups and downs - only for the adventurous at heart) which brings us out at Cascade Gardens where we enjoy a well-deserved rest and quick snack. We then rejoin those that stayed riding on the road and cycle through the outer suburbs of South Hobart and Battery Point. Your journey finishes right on the waterfront of Hobart.
Everything is done to ensure your safety, the rest is up to you. We wear bright coloured clothing and helmets. We always ride on the left and keep an eye on traffic. The bikes have very good V-brakes and are checked before every ride.
Wear something warm for the summit, but have a t-shirt underneath as you warm up quickly once you get off the mountain. Wear sneakers, walking boots or walking shoes for cycling. Helmets are supplied and warm polar fleece jackets/rain jackets, ear warmers and gloves for cooler months if required. |

Day Tripper Pedal N Paddle Tour |
If our Mt Wellington Descent isn't quite enough for you, add a two hour sea kayak to the tour and make the ultimate five hour Hobart adventure tour. We currently offer two tours to choose from which both combine the Mt Wellington Descent and a two hour sea kayak.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that won't restrict you when bike riding such as shorts or long trousers. Sneakers are best for cycling and sports sandals/ sneakers are best for seakayaking (no open-toed sandals or shoes with heels). A change of shorts/trousers is recommended for after seakayaking. Layers are the best way to go, t-shirt underneath, then long sleeve jumper and/or jacket. We can store your extra gear so bring it in a bag to access in between activities.
Hobart
Hobart Tasmania
This is a 5 hour adventure, including a 3 hour bike ride and a two
hour sea kayak.
Your guide will ride with you all the way from the summit into town, for larger groups there are more guides. We use a ratio of 1 guide per 5 guests.
All equipment is provided - bike, helmet, gloves, warm fleece jacket, rain jacket, double sea kayak, paddle, life jacket and a waterproof bag.
Come and enjoy 5 hours of adventure pedalling from Mt Wellington's summit and finishing off with a fantastic kayak in the sea.
Choose between a morning departure (9:30am) or an afternoon departure (1:30pm) - it's up to you!
Why not start your day at 9.30am with a wake up call on the Mt Wellington Descent. Nothing could be more sobering than a 21km downhill bike ride on the Mt Wellington Descent. Ride from the summit back to sea level then jump in a sea kayak and hit the water with a two hour paddle. This gentle sea kayak takes you around Battery Point around to the landmark Wrest Point Tower and back again. See Hobart from the water for a completely different perspective. Finish with fish and chips for lunch from one of the fish punts on the docks. The tour concludes around 2.30pm.
If you're not a morning person, then perhaps our afternoon trip is more suitable. It covers the same tracks as our morning adventure, starting at 1:30pm and concluding around 6:30pm.
A light meal and a snack in included as well as transport to the summit, fully experienced guides and all equipment.
A minimum level of fitness is required for cycling and it helps if you've ridden a bike before. Once you get off the mountain, the roads are mostly flat, in some cases there are some gentle inclines. There are plenty of regrouping points along the way to cater for all speed levels. There is no fitness level required for the sea kayking.
Please leave your luggage safely in your vehicle or hotel (we cannot take responsibility for personal items left unattended by you). |
